Karma Yoga Stay

A Karma Yoga stay is the perfect way of combining work and private retreat time. As a karma yogi you are a part of the Krishna Village community, working for a few hours per day while enjoying the benefits of having a lot of time to yourself to spend in yoga classes, meditate, get a massage or book a Life Coaching session.
The purpose of Karma Yoga
Karma yoga means to connect to the higher self and the divine through loving service and discipline of action. By volunteering a few hours per day to work in the Krishna Village gardens or around the retreat area, you experience a practical, down-to-earth method for spiritual growth: digging your hands in the ground, producing wonderful organic food and sharing your service with the community in a mood of love and kindness.
One of the fundamental principles behind the practice of karma yoga is that in life what you do doesn’t matter as much as your attitude while doing it. So when you serve with joy and an open heart you will become aware of the beauty of reciprocity: the wonderful energy flow of giving and receiving. This is a very valuable life lesson that will hopefully remain with you even after your stay at the Krishna Village.
The Krishna Village experience
As a permanent eco yoga community, we provide classes ongoingly for all guests, taught by a variety of teachers. The recommended arrival day is Monday, when we run an 11am Welcome Tour for all new arrivals and introduce you to our program, our vision and our way of life. To get a general idea about our program, please have a look at our activities overview. At the moment we are running yoga classes 2x/day (early morning and afternoon) as well as Yogic Living classes on Sun-Fri at 1:30pm, which encompass a broad variety of topics around a healthy yoga lifestyle, like philosophy, meditation, Ayurveda, life coaching etc.. Many of them are the 'best of' parts of our Yoga Teacher Training curriculum, made available for all guests - like on this example schedule.
Kids are most welcome, but need to be supervised by their parents at all times. So you can only join us for a karma yoga stay if there are at least two parents, one of whom can do a retreat stay and watch the kids, while the other one works. For a karma yogi, the minimum stay is one week. In return for 20hrs/work per week you pay a reduced rate for your accommodation (usually in a shared twin room) and get free food and access to yoga and all other regular classes at the Krishna Village, that happen outside of your work hours. Our example schedule gives you an idea of what's available.
You work for 5hrs on 4 days/week during our usual work hours: 6.15am – 8.15am and 9:15am – 12:15pm. We only have a limited amount of karma yoga spots available, so it’s always best to book well in advance.
Please note: Upon arrival we collect a $50 bond per person to make sure people treat our rooms/equipment with care, return keys and comply with the work agreement. It will be refunded on the day of your departure, given that the agreement has been fulfilled and no bills have been left unpaid.

Delicious Vegetarian Food
The Krishna Farm has been producing organic veggies since the 1980s and has therefore fantastic conditions to grow excellent produce. We grow as much of our own food as we can, and otherwise buy locally wherever possible.
We provide 3 delicious vegetarian meals every day, with lunches taking place at the Krishna Village community kitchen, and breakfast and dinners - mostly Indian style - served at the prasadam hall, next to the temple.
All our food is prasadam - sacred food prepared in a consciousness of loving service. Like in other cultures, we offer our food before we eat to say Grace and thank the Divine for the sun, the rain, and all the visible and invisible blessings necessary to co-create a delicious meal. The Krishna Farm
Nestled in the foothills of Mount Warning, in the heart of the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, the Krishna Farm “New Govardhana” is a 1000 acre certified organic property with orchards, veggie gardens, cows, horses, streams and swimming holes in abundance.
New Govardhana serves as an ashram to a community of yogis who aspire to live according to their deepest vows and commitments on their path of service, spiritual contentment and happiness, Bhakti Yoga.
